eSIM Guide: Turkey
Everything you need to know
Network Quality
Good
Turkcell reaches the most rural and coastal areas, while Turk Telekom and Vodafone Turkey are strong in cities and along main highways, and commercial 5G only began on 1 April 2026 so most of the country still runs on 4G/LTE.

Travel Tips
Buy and install your eSIM before you land. Turkey's BTK regulator blocked many international eSIM provider websites and apps from inside the country in July 2025, so activating on arrival often fails.
A roaming travel eSIM sidesteps the IMEI rule. Putting a local Turkish SIM in your own phone starts a 120-day clock, after which the device is blocked from Turkish networks unless the IMEI is registered.
Turn off automatic network selection near the Greek islands and land borders so your phone does not latch onto a foreign network and bill you for roaming.
What it actually costs

What Turkey data actually costs

Turkey travel eSIM prices look random until you convert every plan to one number: the real cost per gigabyte. Here is what that reveals right now.

The cheapest plan at each size, 30 days

DataCheapest providerTotalPrice per GB
50 GBNomad$31$0.62/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM
25 GBUbigi$25$1.00/GBGet plan ↗🏷 10% off with code TRAVELCITY10

5 GBNomad$9$1.80/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM
1 GBYesim$2.32$2.32/GBGet plan ↗🏷 15% off with code TRAVELCITY

Cost per GB rises from $0.62/GB at 50 GB to $2.32/GB at 1 GB. Buying a little more data than you expect to use is almost always cheaper per gigabyte than buying exactly what you need.

The "unlimited" trap

The same words, unlimited for 30 days, cover a wide price range, and most plans slow down after a daily threshold that the label hides.

ProviderUnlimited, 30 daysFair-use cap
Maya$49.993 GB/day, then 10 Mbps sourceGet plan ↗🏷 10% off with code ATESIM
Ubigi$645 GB/day, then 2 MbpsGet plan ↗🏷 10% off with code TRAVELCITY10

GigSky$65.492.5 GB/day, then reduced, but not below 100 kbps sourceGet plan ↗🏷 15% off with code ATESIM
Airalo$693 GB/day, then 1 Mbps sourceGet plan ↗
Saily$71.995 GB/day, then 1 Mbps sourceGet plan ↗

Unlimited 30 day plans run from $49.99 to $71.99, a spread of about 44 percent, for a label that means the same thing on paper. Check the daily cap before you buy, especially if you plan to tether a laptop.

Do not overpay for coverage you will not use

If your whole trip is in Turkey, a Turkey only plan is far cheaper per gigabyte than a Europe or global plan carrying the same data. Same provider (Nomad), same 50 GB, 30 days:

Nomad planPricePrice per GB
Turkey only$31$0.62/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM
Europe$35$0.70/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM
Global$129$2.58/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM

A Turkey only plan costs much less per gigabyte than a regional or global plan with the same data. Only pay for the wider plan if you are actually crossing borders on this trip.

Host networks

Which network does your Turkey eSIM use?

This is the question that decides your real signal, and almost no comparison site answers it. Your travel eSIM connects to one or more local networks as a visitor, and that choice matters the moment you leave the big cities, because rural coverage varies a lot between them.

ProviderHost networkStatus
AiraloTurk Telekom (Merhaba local plan)Confirmed
GigSkyNot publicly disclosed (independent testing reports Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey)Confirming
UbigiTurk Telekom and TurkcellConfirmed
NomadTürk Telekom (Avea)Confirmed
SailyNot publicly disclosedConfirming
YesimTurkcell, Turk Telekom and Vodafone TurkeyConfirmed

Turkcell carries the widest rural and coastal footprint and underpins Saily, Ubigi and Yesim, while Turk Telekom hosts most Airalo and Nomad plans; GigSky is the only row not carrier-confirmed since it does not disclose its Turkey partner.

Coverage

Coverage by where you are going

  • Turkcell has the widest rural and coastal reach; Turk Telekom and Vodafone Turkey are strong in cities and along main highways.
  • Istanbul metro lines and the Marmaray rail tunnel under the Bosphorus carry mobile coverage.
  • Major tourist areas including Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Bodrum, Cappadocia and Pamukkale have solid 4G, though smaller Cappadocia towns can drop to 30 to 40 Mbps or lose signal in the valleys.
  • Commercial 5G launched on 1 April 2026 in the largest cities, with nationwide rollout expected within about a year, so most journeys still rely on 4G/LTE.
  • Near the Greek islands and some land borders a phone can pick up a foreign network, which may trigger roaming charges if automatic selection is left on.
Which one you want

Travel eSIM vs a local Turkey SIM

A travel eSIM roams on a Turkish host network such as Turkcell, Turk Telekom or Vodafone Turkey, so it counts as a foreign SIM and never starts Turkey's 120-day IMEI clock. You keep your home number for calls and texts, and data works as soon as you arrive provided you installed the profile before landing, since provider websites are blocked inside Turkey.

A local Turkish SIM or eSIM from Turkcell, Vodafone or Turk Telekom, or from budget MVNOs Pttcell on Turk Telekom and BiMcell on Turkcell, is cheaper per gigabyte for long stays and gives you a Turkish number. The catch is that putting a Turkish SIM into your own phone starts the IMEI timer, and on day 121 the device is blocked from all Turkish networks unless you register it for the 2026 fee of about 54,258 lira, which tourists usually cannot pay without a residence permit.

Quick rule: Trip under four months, use a roaming travel eSIM; relocating to Turkey with residency, get a local SIM and register your IMEI.

Turkey's networks are Turkcell, Turk Telekom and Vodafone Turkey, and budget MVNOs are Pttcell on Turk Telekom and BiMcell on Turkcell; the 2026 IMEI registration fee is about 54,258 lira.

How it works

How a Turkey travel eSIM works

A travel eSIM replaces expensive roaming with a cheap local data plan you activate in seconds. There is no plastic SIM and no airport queue. Roaming with your home carrier can run 6 to 12 dollars a day, so a week easily tops 50 to 80 dollars for service you already pay for at home.

Three things to get right:

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM before you buy.
  2. Install the eSIM at home over WiFi, but wait to activate it until you land, because the validity period usually starts on activation.
  3. Keep your physical SIM in the phone for calls and texts on your normal number.
Methodology

How we rank Turkey eSIMs

Every plan on this page is sorted by real price per GB (total price divided by included data, normalised to USD), so a cheap-looking 1 GB plan cannot outrank a better-value 10 GB one. We refresh prices daily and only list providers with a track record of activating on arrival. We earn a small affiliate commission when you buy through our links. It funds the price tracking and never changes the order you see.

FAQ

Turkey travel eSIM FAQ

Which local network does each eSIM use in Turkey?

Airalo's Turkey Merhaba plan and Nomad both run mainly on Turk Telekom, while Saily uses Turkcell and Ubigi uses both Turk Telekom and Turkcell. Yesim connects across Turkcell, Turk Telekom and Vodafone Turkey. GigSky reportedly uses Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey but does not officially publish its carrier.

Is 5G available in Turkey yet?

Turkey held its 5G spectrum auction in October 2025, with Turkcell, Turk Telekom and Vodafone Turkey all winning frequencies. Commercial 5G went live on 1 April 2026, starting in the largest cities, with a nationwide rollout expected over roughly the following year. Before that date the country was 4G/LTE only, as 5G had been repeatedly delayed.

Will my phone get blocked while I am in Turkey?

A device works normally on Turkish networks for the first 120 days after a Turkish SIM is first used in it. On day 121 the network refuses service unless the IMEI has been registered, which costs about 54,258 lira for 2026 and generally requires a Turkish ID or residence permit. A roaming travel eSIM avoids this because it counts as a foreign SIM and never starts the clock.

Do these eSIMs still work after the 2025 provider ban?

Yes. In July 2025 Turkey's BTK regulator blocked the websites and some apps of many international eSIM sellers from being reached inside the country. The eSIMs themselves keep working, so the fix is to buy and install your plan before you arrive. Yesim's app is one of the few that has stayed reachable from inside Turkey.

Are the unlimited plans actually unlimited?

No, they use fair-use daily caps. Saily allows 5 GB per day at full speed, Airalo allows 3 GB, and Nomad allows 2 GB, after which speeds drop to around 1 Mbps until the next day. If you want to avoid daily throttling, a fixed-data plan such as 10 GB or 20 GB for 30 days is often the better pick.

Which provider is best for rural or coastal Turkey?

Choose a plan that rides on Turkcell, which has the widest reach into rural areas, mountain roads and coastal towns. Saily runs on Turkcell directly, and Ubigi and Yesim both include Turkcell in their Turkey coverage. In smaller Cappadocia towns even Turkcell can dip to 30 to 40 Mbps or lose signal in the valleys.
