eSIM Guide: Cyprus
Everything you need to know
Network Quality
Good
Cyta has the widest reach and Epic matches it in the cities, with 5G in the main towns since around 2021 to 2022, though a Republic eSIM either stops working or roams at non-EU rates in Northern Cyprus.

Travel Tips
If you cross into Northern Cyprus, expect your Republic eSIM to stop working normally or roam at non-EU rates, so buy a separate Turkey or Northern Cyprus eSIM for that part of the island.
In Nicosia near the Green Line, set network selection to manual and pick a Cyprus (Republic) operator so your phone does not latch onto a northern network by mistake.
For the Troodos Mountains and remote areas, download offline maps first, since the travel eSIMs here run on Epic or PrimeTel rather than the wider-reaching Cyta and signal can drop in the hills.
What it actually costs

What Cyprus data actually costs

Cyprus travel eSIM prices look random until you convert every plan to one number: the real cost per gigabyte. Here is what that reveals right now.

The cheapest plan at each size, 30 days

DataCheapest providerTotalPrice per GB
50 GBUbigi$35$0.70/GBGet plan ↗🏷 10% off with code TRAVELCITY10

1 GBYesim$2.33$2.33/GBGet plan ↗🏷 15% off with code TRAVELCITY

Cost per GB rises from $0.70/GB at 50 GB to $2.33/GB at 1 GB. Buying a little more data than you expect to use is almost always cheaper per gigabyte than buying exactly what you need.

The "unlimited" trap

The same words, unlimited for 30 days, cover a wide price range, and most plans slow down after a daily threshold that the label hides.

ProviderUnlimited, 30 daysFair-use cap
Yesim$48.49Not publishedGet plan ↗🏷 15% off with code TRAVELCITY
Ubigi$49Not publishedGet plan ↗🏷 10% off with code TRAVELCITY10

Airalo$693 GB/day, then 1 Mbps sourceGet plan ↗
Saily$71.995 GB/day, then 1 Mbps sourceGet plan ↗

Unlimited 30 day plans run from $48.49 to $71.99, a spread of about 48 percent, for a label that means the same thing on paper. Check the daily cap before you buy, especially if you plan to tether a laptop.

Do not overpay for coverage you will not use

If your whole trip is in Cyprus, a Cyprus only plan is far cheaper per gigabyte than a Europe or global plan carrying the same data. Same provider (Nomad), same 50 GB, 30 days:

Nomad planPricePrice per GB
Cyprus only$45$0.90/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM
Europe$35$0.70/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM
Global$129$2.58/GBGet plan ↗🏷 20% off with code ATESIM

A Cyprus only plan costs much less per gigabyte than a regional or global plan with the same data. Only pay for the wider plan if you are actually crossing borders on this trip.

Host networks

Which network does your Cyprus eSIM use?

This is the question that decides your real signal, and almost no comparison site answers it. Your travel eSIM connects to one or more local networks as a visitor, and that choice matters the moment you leave the big cities, because rural coverage varies a lot between them.

ProviderHost networkStatus
AiraloPrimeTelConfirmed
GigSkyNot publicly disclosedConfirming
UbigiEpic and PrimeTelConfirmed
NomadNot publicly disclosedConfirming
SailyNot publicly disclosedConfirming
YesimNot publicly disclosedConfirming

Only Airalo (PrimeTel) and Ubigi (Epic and PrimeTel) publish their Cyprus host networks; the other four do not name an operator, and none of the six confirms using Cyta, which has the widest coverage in the Republic.

Coverage

Coverage by where you are going

  • Cyta (Cytamobile-Vodafone) has the widest coverage across the Republic, including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and the coastal resorts.
  • Epic and Cyta both run 5G, launched around 2021 to 2022, with coverage concentrated in the main cities and tourist areas.
  • 4G reaches nearly all populated areas, though signal thins in the Troodos Mountains and some remote spots.
  • Northern Cyprus (the self-declared TRNC) uses Turkish-linked networks such as KKTCELL (Turkcell) and Vodafone/Telsim that are not in the EU, so a Republic of Cyprus eSIM will not work normally there and may roam at non-EU rates.
  • Near the Green Line in Nicosia a phone can latch onto a northern network, so lock your device to a Cyprus (Republic) operator to avoid accidental charges.
  • The Republic of Cyprus is in the EU, so EU and EEA travelers on a local plan get Roam Like At Home rates.
Which one you want

Travel eSIM vs a local Cyprus SIM

A travel eSIM is the simpler option for a short trip, since you install it before you fly and connect on arrival. The six providers here run on Epic or PrimeTel where disclosed, and those networks cover the main towns and coast on 4G with some 5G. None of them work normally in Northern Cyprus, so plan separately if you cross the Green Line.

A local prepaid SIM from Cyta, Epic or PrimeTel can be cheaper for a longer stay and gives you a Cypriot number for calls and texts. Cyta has the widest coverage, including the Troodos Mountains and rural areas. You can buy prepaid SIMs at Larnaca and Paphos airports, operator stores and many kiosks, with ID needed at registration.

Quick rule: Short trip and data only, use a travel eSIM; longer stay or you need a local number, buy a prepaid SIM from Cyta or Epic.

The Republic's three networks are Cyta (Cytamobile-Vodafone), Epic and PrimeTel; Cyta is the former state operator and has the widest coverage, and budget brand Cablenet also sells mobile plans.

How it works

How a Cyprus travel eSIM works

A travel eSIM replaces expensive roaming with a cheap local data plan you activate in seconds. There is no plastic SIM and no airport queue. Roaming with your home carrier can run 6 to 12 dollars a day, so a week easily tops 50 to 80 dollars for service you already pay for at home.

Three things to get right:

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM before you buy.
  2. Install the eSIM at home over WiFi, but wait to activate it until you land, because the validity period usually starts on activation.
  3. Keep your physical SIM in the phone for calls and texts on your normal number.
Methodology

How we rank Cyprus eSIMs

Every plan on this page is sorted by real price per GB (total price divided by included data, normalised to USD), so a cheap-looking 1 GB plan cannot outrank a better-value 10 GB one. We refresh prices daily and only list providers with a track record of activating on arrival. We earn a small affiliate commission when you buy through our links. It funds the price tracking and never changes the order you see.

FAQ

Cyprus travel eSIM FAQ

Will my Cyprus eSIM work in Northern Cyprus?

Not reliably. Northern Cyprus (the self-declared TRNC) uses Turkish-linked networks such as KKTCELL and Vodafone/Telsim, which sit outside the EU. A Republic of Cyprus eSIM will either stop working there or roam at non-EU rates, so buy a separate Turkey or Northern Cyprus eSIM if you plan to visit the north.

Which networks do these eSIMs use in Cyprus?

Airalo runs on PrimeTel and Ubigi uses Epic and PrimeTel, both confirmed on the providers' own pages. GigSky, Nomad, Saily and Yesim do not publicly name their Cyprus host network, so we list those as not disclosed. The Republic's three mobile networks are Cyta (Cytamobile-Vodafone), Epic and PrimeTel.

Is there 5G in Cyprus?

Yes. Epic and Cyta both launched 5G around 2021 to 2022, with coverage concentrated in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos and the main tourist areas. Whether you actually get 5G depends on your plan and the host network, and 4G remains the fallback across most of the island.

Do I get EU Roam Like At Home with a Cyprus eSIM?

If your plan is sold as a local Cyprus or EU regional plan, the Republic of Cyprus is in the EU, so Roam Like At Home rules apply for EU and EEA travelers. Travel eSIMs from global providers are priced on their own terms and are not bound by EU roaming caps. Check whether your plan is a local Cyprus plan or a wider regional one before you rely on EU rates.

What are the unlimited plan daily limits?

Plans labelled unlimited all use fair-use daily thresholds. Airalo slows down after 3 GB per day, GigSky after 2.5 GB, and Saily after about 5 GB, each dropping to roughly 1 Mbps for the rest of the day. Nomad caps at 2 GB per day, and Ubigi's 30-day Europe plan gives 60 GB of full speed data before slowing to 2 Mbps.

Can I make phone calls with a travel eSIM?

Most travel eSIMs here are data only and do not include a Cypriot phone number or standard SMS. You can still call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. If you need a local number for regular calls, buy a prepaid SIM from Cyta, Epic or PrimeTel instead.
