What it actually costs

What Albania data actually costs

Albania travel eSIM prices look random until you convert every plan to one number: the real cost per gigabyte. Here is what that reveals right now.

The cheapest plan at each size, 30 days

DataCheapest providerTotalPrice per GB
50 GBNomad$49$0.98/GBGet plan โ†—
25 GBUbigi$55$2.20/GBGet plan โ†—๐Ÿท 10% off with code TRAVELCITY10

1 GBYesim$2.39$2.39/GBGet plan โ†—๐Ÿท 15% off with code TRAVELCITY

Cost per GB rises from $0.98/GB at 50 GB to $2.39/GB at 1 GB. Buying a little more data than you expect to use is almost always cheaper per gigabyte than buying exactly what you need.

The "unlimited" trap

The same words, unlimited for 30 days, cover a wide price range, and most plans slow down after a daily threshold that the label hides.

ProviderUnlimited, 30 daysFair-use cap
Maya$49.99ConfirmingGet plan โ†—๐Ÿท 10% off with code ATESIM

Airalo$98ConfirmingGet plan โ†—
Saily$98.99ConfirmingGet plan โ†—
GigSky$109.99ConfirmingGet plan โ†—๐Ÿท 15% off with code ATESIM

Unlimited 30 day plans run from $49.99 to $109.99, a spread of about 120 percent, for a label that means the same thing on paper. Check the daily cap before you buy, especially if you plan to tether a laptop.

Do not overpay for coverage you will not use

If your whole trip is in Albania, a Albania only plan is far cheaper per gigabyte than a Europe or global plan carrying the same data. Same provider (Nomad), same 50 GB, 30 days:

Nomad planPricePrice per GB
Albania only$49$0.98/GBGet plan โ†—
Europe$35$0.70/GBGet plan โ†—
Global$129$2.58/GBGet plan โ†—

A Albania only plan costs much less per gigabyte than a regional or global plan with the same data. Only pay for the wider plan if you are actually crossing borders on this trip.

Host networks

Which network does your Albania eSIM use?

This is the question that decides your real signal, and almost no comparison site answers it. Your travel eSIM connects to one or more local networks as a visitor, and that choice matters the moment you leave the big cities, because rural coverage varies a lot between them.

ProviderHost networkStatus
AiraloOne AlbaniaConfirmed
GigSkyNot publicly disclosedConfirming
UbigiOne AlbaniaConfirmed
NomadOne Albania (also Vodafone Albania)Confirmed
SailyNot publicly disclosedConfirming
YesimNot publicly disclosedConfirming

One Albania is the confirmed host for Airalo, Ubigi and Nomad, and Nomad also lists Vodafone Albania as a fallback; GigSky, Saily and Yesim do not publicly name their Albanian host, and Vodafone Albania has the broadest reach overall, which matters most for rural and mountain travel.

Coverage

Coverage by where you are going

  • Vodafone Albania has the largest national footprint, reaching smaller towns and much of the interior alongside the main cities and coast.
  • One Albania, the host for Airalo, Ubigi and Nomad here, covers Tirana, Durres and the main tourist areas, and its 5G reached about 60 percent of the population by 2025.
  • Commercial 5G launched in late 2024, with Vodafone Albania switching on its network on 26 November 2024, concentrated in Tirana, Durres, Fier, Gjirokaster and popular resorts.
  • The mountainous north, including the Albanian Alps, Theth and Valbona, plus the SH8 pass, has weak or no signal regardless of provider.
  • Albania is outside the EU, so it is excluded from EU Roam Like At Home and is left out of, or surcharged on, several providers' Europe regional plans.
  • Tirana has no metro system, so there is no separate underground coverage gap to plan around; street-level 4G and 5G in the capital are dependable.
Which one you want

Travel eSIM vs a local Albania SIM

A travel eSIM is the simple choice for a short visit, and most here ride One Albania, with Nomad also able to fall back to Vodafone Albania. These plans are data-only, install before you fly, and start automatically on arrival, so you avoid roaming bills and airport queues. Coverage tracks the underlying network, which means good service in cities and on the coast and thinner service in the mountains.

A local Vodafone Albania or One Albania prepaid SIM works out cheaper if you need large amounts of data or a local phone number for bookings and taxis. Starter packs and tourist data bundles are sold at Tirana International Airport and operator shops in town. The tradeoff is that you must show ID to register, and you swap out your home SIM unless your phone takes two lines.

Quick rule: Short coastal or city trip, pick a travel eSIM; longer stay or heavy data with a local number, buy a Vodafone Albania prepaid SIM.

Albania's networks are Vodafone Albania, One Albania and ALBtelecom, and law requires photo ID or passport registration to buy any prepaid SIM, with starter packs sold at Tirana International Airport and operator stores.

How it works

How a Albania travel eSIM works

A travel eSIM replaces expensive roaming with a cheap local data plan you activate in seconds. There is no plastic SIM and no airport queue. Roaming with your home carrier can run 6 to 12 dollars a day, so a week easily tops 50 to 80 dollars for service you already pay for at home.

Three things to get right:

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM before you buy.
  2. Install the eSIM at home over WiFi, but wait to activate it until you land, because the validity period usually starts on activation.
  3. Keep your physical SIM in the phone for calls and texts on your normal number.
Methodology

How we rank Albania eSIMs

Every plan on this page is sorted by real price per GB (total price divided by included data, normalised to USD), so a cheap-looking 1 GB plan cannot outrank a better-value 10 GB one. We refresh prices daily and only list providers with a track record of activating on arrival. We earn a small affiliate commission when you buy through our links. It funds the price tracking and never changes the order you see.

FAQ

Albania travel eSIM FAQ

Which network gives the best coverage in Albania?

Vodafone Albania has the widest national reach, especially in rural and mountain areas, so it is the strongest choice if you leave the main tourist zones. Among travel eSIMs, Airalo, Ubigi and Nomad run on One Albania, which is fine for Tirana, Durres and the coast. Nomad can also fall back to Vodafone Albania, which helps in weaker-signal areas.

Do Europe eSIM plans work in Albania?

Not always, because Albania is outside the EU and is not part of Roam Like At Home. Some providers include Albania in their Europe regional plans and others exclude it or add a surcharge. Always confirm Albania is listed by name in the plan's country coverage before you pay, or buy an Albania-specific plan instead.

Is there 5G in Albania?

Yes. Commercial 5G launched in late 2024, with Vodafone Albania switching on its network on 26 November 2024 and One Albania rolling out around the same period. Coverage is concentrated in Tirana, Durres, Fier, Gjirokaster and popular resort areas, and One Albania reported about 60 percent population coverage by 2025. Outside those zones you will mostly see 4G.

Will my eSIM work in the Albanian Alps and Theth?

Coverage in the far north, including Theth and Valbona, is weak to nonexistent on every network, and the SH8 mountain road between Tirana and the coast has stretches with no signal. Vodafone Albania tends to hold signal longer than One Albania in remote areas. Download offline maps before you set out and do not rely on constant data in the highlands.

Are the unlimited Albania eSIMs actually unlimited?

No, they all apply a fair-use policy. Airalo gives 3 GB per day before slowing to 1 Mbps, Saily gives 5 GB per day before dropping to around 1 Mbps, and GigSky slows after about 2.5 GB per day. Ubigi allows 20 GB of full-speed data per plan before optimizing to 2 Mbps, so heavy streaming users should check the specific cap.

Can I use my Albania eSIM in Kosovo, Montenegro or Greece?

A single-country Albania eSIM only works inside Albania, so it will not connect in neighboring Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Greece. If you plan to cross borders, buy a Balkans regional or wider Europe plan and confirm each country is listed. Nomad and several others sell Balkans regional plans that cover Albania plus its neighbors.
